Apple issued a critical update to iOS 12 today that fixes several bugs plaguing iPhone XS and XS Max devices since their initial release.
The new version -- iOS 12.0.1 -- is available for download right now, and if you don't receive a push notification prompting you to download it, you can force your device to by navigating to Settings > General > Software Update.
The new version of iOS should fix several issues people have been reporting including that, at least in some instances, a device didn't start charging when it was connected to a Lightning cable. The update will also fix a small WiFi issue that forced some iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max devices to connect to a slower 2.4 GHz band when a faster 5 GHz connection was available.
Another change people might notice is that the update will restore the original position of the "123 key" on the iPad keyboard. This was briefly replaced by an emoji button, but now, the system will revert back to the original look -- making it easier for iPad users to navigate to the number keys.
Finally, the update will fix a small issue that prevented some subtitles appearing in videos. Now, closed captions should show up in all their glory, making it easier for everyone to watch videos when their phone is on silent mode.
For those of you waiting for Apple's new emojis, don't hold your breath. Those aren't coming until the official release of iOS 12.1. So until then, you're stuck with the classics.
