A Carrey spokesperson confirmed to Mashable that the "sketch" was Carrey's handiwork, but could not confirm that the person portrayed was Sanders.

Among those blasting Carrey, and connecting the portrait to the press secretary, was Huckabee Sanders' father, former governor Mike Huckabee, who called Carrey a "pathetic BULLY, sexist, hater, bigot & 'Christaphobe'."

That's not to say Carrey doesn't have his supporters, but the criticism has been swift and vicious since he posted it -- even though it's hardly Carrey's first foray into political controversy. Carrey's Twitter feed is full of politically-motivated paintings, including several related to the recent deadly school shooting in Parkland, Florida, that take on Sen. Marco Rubio and President Trump.
Updated to include statement for Carrey's rep and tweet by Mike Huckabee.
