It's been almost 20 years since 022 ArchivesBig Lebowskigraced us with its slacker bible in film form, but even now, The Dude still abides, as Jeff Bridges proved on Friday.
Yesterday, Bridges broke out his iconic character (Jeffrey "The Dude" Lebowski) to honor John Goodman, his co-star from the film, as Goodman received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
SEE ALSO: Steve Buscemi is clearly a fan of this 'Big Lebowski' sign at the Women's MarchBefore making a speech introducing his friend, Bridges first donned the well known Lebowski sweater, thus transforming into his Dude persona. The reveal of the sweater surprised even Goodman, who said, through a childlike grin, "I'm not worthy."
Bridges then mimicked Goodman's famous burial speech from the film, in perfect Dude accent and slouch posture:
"In your wisdom lord, you have lived through John as you have through so many other bright, flowering, young actors before him," says Bridges, to laughs from the crowd. "I’m talking about men like Clark Gable, Gabby Hayes, Roy Rogers — to keep in the whole Western thing — Groucho Marx, Jimmy Cagney. We could go on and on, but you get the idea."
Aside from Goodman's well-deserved Hollywood honor, the rare appearance of The Dude (so good that only a White Russian cocktail in hand would have made it better) will give some hope that the character will make a cameo appearance in Going Places(starring John Turturro as Jesus Quintana), The Big Lebowskispin-off coming later this year.
