Samsung was embroiled in crisis following the global recall of the Galaxy Note 7 last year. The phone was known for having overheating issues, and in some cases, exploding. The Note 7 caught fire in hotels and on planes and eventually cost Samsung about $5.3 billion.
So will Samsung bounce back? Well, the company just set record high profits, so it's certainly trending in the right direction. Whether another phone can add to that success remains to be seen, but the company will likely make the case for it later today.
