LOS ANGELES -- YouTube is Watch Scott Pilgrim vs. the World Onlineupping its social good efforts.
The platform on Thursday launched a new initiative called Creators for Change, designed to help creators who are focus on social issues with their channels.
YouTube kicked off the initiative by selecting six program ambassadors, who for the next year will be tasked with "fostering productive dialogue around these topics through the videos they create," YouTube said in its blog.
To help the emerging creators, YouTube will commit $1 million in equipment and production grants.
"At a time when the internet is criticized for fueling division and distrust, we want to help demonstrate the incredible power YouTube has to generate a positive social impact," YouTube said.
Here are the first six change ambassadors:
The Australian YouTuber has more than 1.8 million subscribers with over half a billion channel views. She posts a mix of scripted comedy clips (monologue and sketch) about "oddities of everyday awkward situations."
The creator, who is from Belgium, is known for his stand-up comedy. He also utilizes his YouTube channel to share content about peace, love and tolerance.
Farooq is German, with roots in Poland and Pakistan. The actress and lifestyle vlogger has amassed 1.1 million subscribers.
Omar created Al-Tayer, a social satire show focused on the Saudi environment surrounding him.
Istanbul-based storyteller Baris produces and broadcasts YouTube videos about art, design, technology and literature
The British and Pakistani YouTube comedian, based in the UK, is known for his Diary of a Badmanseries on YouTube.
