This trend of face-swapping Nicolas Cage seems to originate from a Reddit user called u/derpfakes, who has been sharing his creations in the (definitely NSFW) subreddit r/deepfakes (the main source of that Motherboardstory mentioned above).

Unsurprisingly, people had some thoughts.
