Apple drove a lot of people bonkers earlier this year when it killed the headphone jack on free x rated moviesthe iPhone 7. Its just-unveiled MacBook Pros maintain the classic port, but experts at iFixit, an online tech repair site known for its detailed "teardowns" of products, say this could be the last time.
SEE ALSO: No, Apple, killing your headphone jack is not 'courage'"Miraculously, the headphone jack survived," the site writes in its report on the laptop, "but given that it's a single modular unit (with two attached microphones) taped to the bottom of the fan, it could easily be dropped in favor of a Lightning or USB-C connector at the next Tribal CouncilMacBook release."
You can see what that looks like here:
It's a compelling theory, but take it with a grain of salt. The evidence is simply that the headphone jack unit is easy to swap out. And it's hard to imagine a pricy laptop marketed to media professionals that doesn't include the easiest way to listen to audio.
Then again, the new MacBook Pro already cut a lot of ports from previous models, including the SD card slot, forcing users to rely on a pile of dongles to make things work. It's possible that the headphone jack would be a bridge too far, but it's hard to argue against precedent.
Apple did not immediately respond to Mashable's request for comment about the headphone jack.
